Above all, to have \u2018high\u2011tech\u2019 entrepreneurship alone without its being embedded in a broad entrepreneurial economy of \u2018no\u2011tech\u2019, \u2018low\u2011tech\u2019, and \u2018middle\u2011tech\u2019, is like having a mountaintop without the mountain.<\/p>\n

Even high-tech people in such a situation will not take jobs in new, risky, high\u2011tech ventures. They will prefer the security of a job in the large, established, \u2018safe\u2019 company or in a government agency.<\/p>\n

Of course, high\u2011tech ventures need a great many people who are not themselves high\u2011tech: accountants, salespeople, managers, and so on.<\/p>\n

In an economy that spurns entrepreneurship and innovation except for that tiny extravaganza, the \u2018glamorous high tech venture\u2019, those people will keep an looking for jobs and career opportunities where society and economy (i.e., their classmates, their parents, and their teachers) encourage them to look: in the large, \u2018safe\u2019 established institution.<\/p>\n

Neither will distributors be willing to take on the products of the new venture, nor are investors willing to back it.<\/p>\n
